The Four Dischords
The Four Dischords was one of Burke’s first forays into polyphonic harmony, singing in a quartet.

University of Washington Homecoming Circa 1959
The university of Washington homecoming in Seattle's Civic Auditorium circa 1959 was the largest event I had ever worked with my band up until that time. My photography company, Memories photography and printing, had the contract to shoot couples color photos as well. To achieve that, and accommodate the 1800 people in attendance, we were working with a staff of twelve: Four photographers, four people greeting and posing the customers and four receipt writers. By that time we were working the photo concessions at most of the large high school and college dances in the region.

Shot from the balcony above and giving you an idea as to what some of our multi-song medleys looked like. By the mid-sixties the band was playing all special arrangements that were custom written for the septet with it's many instrumental combinations. The four musicians in the front line doubled eleven instruments thus creating an expansive variety of sounds. This was one of the most important features of Burke Garrett's Septet in the 1960's.
